Blue Green Algae Cyanobacteria (Lab Test)

This laboratory test will check your water sample for the presence of cyanobacteria / blue-green algae.

Cyanobacteria are aquatic and photosynthetic and hence live in water. They are also called blue-green algae, but they are a bacteria not an algae.  They are one of the largest group of bacteria on earth and the oldest known fossil. They are a health risk to humans and animals as they can produce neurotoxins, cytotoxins, endotoxins and hepatotoxins. Cyanobacteria reproduce explosively under certain conditions and toxins produced by them can not be detected by visual inspection alone. This results in algal blooms, which can become harmful and pose a danger to humans and animals, if the cyanobacteria involved produce toxins.

Our sampling service involves us providing you with a comprehensive kit that includes specially sterilised sample bottles, labels, and full instructions together with a contact number to arrange your return collection with UPS couriers**.

This sampling kit will allow you to collect the samples, record details of each sample point correctly and then courier them to us for evaluation.

Our standard service does not offer refrigerated transport although cool packs are provided.  Therefore, the integrity of the samples may be compromised prior to being received by the laboratory.

Results for samples submitted exceeding this timeframe and those which carry no sample date and/or time will be deemed Invalid. Samples are considered grossly deviating if 48 hours or more has elapsed between sampling & testing and resampling is strongly recommended.

 Storage requirements of 2-8° were not met during transit; therefore, the validity of the test material may be compromised.
